Richmond, Va., – The VCU Rams was under three minutes away from a draw with #25 Akron Zips in the season debut at home. Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, Anthony Macchione was able to convert on a header at the 108th minute to the Zips the win over the Rams 3-2.

The first half saw the Rams on the defensive for much of the period in what was a slow-paced half. Both teams only took two shots. The second half saw a much more fast paced game where both teams scored two goals. Akron forward, Sam Gainford, scored both goals for the Zips including an impressive bicycle kick at the 78th minute. VCU was able to come back with goals of the their own by Jason McGlothern and Dennis Castillo scored at the 88th minute to send the game into extra time.
