The rain didn’t stop the Washington Redskins from getting on the field today. It rained for the majority of practice, with heavy downpours at time, but with the team having their first preseason game on Thursday, every rep they can take is essential.
In situational 11-on-11 drills Saturday quarterback Kirk Cousins was nearly flawless. However today, not so much. He did throw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Desean Jackson, but the football was underthrown and cornerback Bashaud Breeland had a chance to make the interception, it’s just Desean made a better play on the ball. Then working on their two minute offense, Cousins threw a pass out to the flat off his back foot which was intercepted for a touchdown by safety DeAngelo Hall. Not one of Kirk’s best days, but I’m sure he’ll bounce back.
One person on offense who did have a good day was rookie running back Keith Marshall. During team drills he had two big runs against the defense that shows why he has a hold on the No. 3 running back spot on the depth chart right now.
Overall, today’s practice was a win for the defense. In a goal line situation with chants of “Defense” coming from defensive tackle Chris Baker and others, the second unit defense was able to keep the second team offense out of the end zone forcing Colt McCoy to throw the ball out of bounds. All three defensive units also continue to get pressure on the quarterbacks, forcing them out of the pocket and making them feel uncomfortable.
