Today marked the Washington Redskins’ final practice before their preseason opener on Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons. Much of the team wasn’t in pads and the Redskins’ held a mini walkthrough near the end of practice to go over their game plan for Thursday.

Head Coach Jay Gruden has already said the starters won’t play much, so the second and third team offense/defense got a bulk of the reps. During his press conference after practice, Gruden said he’s excited to see how the rookies perform in their first National Football League (NFL) game.

With guys like wide receiver Jamison Crowder and tight end Jordan Reed out on the offensive side of the ball, there will be plenty of opportunities for rookies to make a name for themselves.

But one rookie who continues to catch my eye is running back Keith Marshall. After having a great practice yesterday, he continued that great play during 1-on-1 drills against the linebackers. Marshall made a nice catch against linebacker Carlos Fields, who was tight to Marshall’s hip, which got a cheer from the crowd and the coaches keeping their eye out for Marshall.

There were also two skirmishes during practice, nothing big, but it brought a little bit more excitement to the practice field.

Other News and Notes from Day 11 of Training Camp:

  • Jordan Reed won’t travel with the team to Atlanta, he will stay in Richmond to receive treatment on his sprained thumb.
  • Linebacker Preston Smith injured his shoulder during practice, nothing too serious. Gruden says he will receive treatment and see how he is when Thursday comes.
  • Offensive tackle Trent Williams will travel with the team, but Gruden still isn’t sure whether he’ll play Thursday.
  • Guard Shawn Lauvao will play against the Falcons Thursday.
