Local band Black Girls opened for the group at The National and The Head and the Heart [...]

We’re reminding you how lucky you were on Valentine’s Day to not have been on this blind date. We hosted a blind date in cooperation with Shafer for two lucky student contest winners. FAQ

Q) How do I get involved?

A) To get involved on-air or be a part of the off-air behind the scenes crew, contact the Programming Director at programming@wvcw.org

Q) What is the structure of the organization?

A) WVCW is a student-run organization advised by Lauren Katchuck, student media center business manager. There is an Executive Staff and a General Staff. The general manager of WVCW is Claire Morra and Joel Austin is the Programming Director. We have four on-air departments: News, Talk, Music, and Sports. Off-air departments include Production, Promotions, Design and Web.

Q) How do I get on iTunes?

A) Shows must be approved by the Executive Staff before they can be put on iTunes. This is the premier distribution format for our shows and only the best shows go on iTunes. If you want to be on iTunes you must do your show every single week.

Q) Can I play whatever music I want?

A) No. We have a rule that unless you are VCU staff, you cannot play anything older than two years.

Q) How do I get trained?

A) First pitch your show to the appropriate Department head. Once your show is approved you will be sent to the Programming Director. You will have a short 20-30 minute training session. From there you will participate in the Format period.

Q) What is Format?

A) Format is the period following Training and proceeding Specialty. Format gives DJs the opportunity to practice their technical skills and hear the sound of the station.

Q) What is Specialty?

A) Specialty is your time to do your show. Once your show has been approved and you have been trained and completed Format, you will move into Specialty.

Q) Aren’t these a lot of hoops to jump through?

A) Not if you’re committed. Do not be discouraged, training and Format do not last long and involvement in student organizations is an enriching experience.
