Richmond, Va., – The VCU Rams Women’s soccer team four game winning streak came to an end tonight as they lost 2-0 to the George Washington Colonials (GW) in the battle of unbeatens in Atlantic 10 conference play. GW midfielder, Nicole Belfonti, scored the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute and just minutes later in the 40th minute, GW midfielder, Kristi Abbate, scored the second and final goal of the game.

VCU struggled throughout much of the first half, as they totaled zero shots to GW’s five, in which four were on goal. The Rams were more aggressive in the second half totaling two shots, but it was a little too late as GW started to play keep away midway through the half. The Rams were outshot by GW 9-2, and five were shots on goal for GW.

The Rams are now 6-7-1 (4-1) this season as they fall into a tie for second place with Fordham in the A-10 Conference and GW improves to 10-4 (5-0) as they are now in sole possession of first place in the A-10. The Rams will start on a two game road trip beginning on Sunday when they take on the La Salle Explorers and next Thursday when they play the George Mason Patriots. The Rams return to Sports Backers Stadium on October 25 to face the Massachusetts Minutemen.
