News headlines for September 5

Fraternities ban alcohol

A new nationwide regulation on fraternities could have an effect at VCU

The North American Interfraternity Council, which acts as the governing body  most social fraternities, banned hard liquor from frat houses and parties under new rules announced Tuesday

The policy was made following a string of drinking-related deaths in fraternity houses around the country

Monroe Park will remain closed

Monroe Park was scheduled for a soft grand opening last week, but officials now say that will have to wait

It will now take place sometime in mid-September, according to a city official, because rainfalls stopped crews from doing critical work on the site, like building a pedestrian bridge
