The Time has Come

It’s officially the last week of classes, and we venture forth on this glorious Wednesday to fight the final fight against the hoards of Cabell Zombies, Study Bots, and Nazi TAs. We sally forth to vanquish our semester long foes and of tedious homework, boring lectures, and dragons. TODAY WE… finish classes and pray to god we’re prepared for finals.

But there are more than just finals in the class rooms, but finals here at the station. This week marks some of the last radio shows of the season. Euphoria and Son of the Revolution have already signed out for the season, and many other shows will be following soon.

Though some things may be winding down for the year, others are looking up. This week WVCW was named the Best Student Organization of the Year and the Breakdown’s Jacob McFadden was named Student Media Person of the Year– just naming some of the awesomeness that comes with being apart of VCU’s student-run radio station.

Remember to stay tuned and study hard, or all your prayers will be in vain!

Also, tonight Jacob, John Reeves, and other WVCW hosts will be taking part in a comedy show to benefit the Richmond Triangle Players. Be there and laugh till you cry.

And the race is on!

It’s election week for all of us at the Student Media Center, with tonight kicking off the beginning of voting here at the Station. While we may only have two positions to vote for, and the people running may be unopposed, we shall not neglect our democratic duty to cast our ballots for the things we hold dear– like expanding the station and running it well.

As for the rest of SMC, good luck in the upcoming week and we hope you vote informed– because wisely don’t cut it.

Nerds be advised!

Straight from the gang at Nerdicus Maximus:

Listeners!  You helped make one hell of a show, so we’re repaying the favor with tickets!  As celebration of Portal 2’s release this Tuesday and music in general, Nerdicus Maximus is giving away a pair of tickets to see Jonathan Coulton at the Hat Factory on May 5th.  You may know JoCo from the Code Monkeys theme song or the Portal credits song, “Still Alive,” or just about any of his dozens and dozens of cleverly hilarious tunes.  Now, you can go see him in Richmond!  All you have to do is send us your best piece of Portal-related Art and/or Craft.

There are, of course, a few rules to follow:

  1. We will take ANYTHING even remotely artsy or crafty!  A song, a poem, a sculpture, a drawing, a poster design you made.  If it’s cool, we want to see it.
  2. Put your heart into this.  We want to give the tickets to the person who deserves it the most.  Just because you can’t draw doesn’t mean you can’t write a beautiful poem and vice versa.
  3. Don’t copy someone else’s art.  That’s just lame, man.  Why would you even want to?
  4. When you submit your pieces, make sure you have something there to prove it was yours or else you’ll be disqualified.  That means take a picture of you with the thing you made, even if it’s a picture of you next to your laptop with your drawing open mid-work.
    1. side-note:  Sending us pictures of your actual progress with help your case more than anything.  It also adds to the answer to “HOW’D YOU DO THAT?!”
  5. Yes, we’ll take more than one submission, but they need to be quality submissions.  That being said, we’ll only take up to three.

That’s it!  As long as you put your heart into it, it’ll show.  Next Friday, we’ll decide the winner of the contest and announce who gets the tickets on-air between 2-3pm.  These tickets are yours for the taking!  So really, get to work!

You can submit entries to either of the following e-mails:
Nelson W. Johnson —– NelsonJ@wvcw.org
Jason Francis ———— JasonFrancis@wvcw.org

Make sure you tune into Nerdicus Maximus every Friday at 2 PM to follow along with this great contest.

Another opportunity from your friends at WVCW!

It’s been a long two weeks, but the site is almost completely up to date!

Come this Monday, WVCW.org should be stocked with the podcast of all the shows you love to listen to. If not, send me, or the production lead, an e-mail.

Till then remember to not only download podcast, but to listen live to all of your favorite shows here on WVCW.

Where’s Dream with Emilyn !?

0

Don’t spaz. The show, and all it’s podcast, have been moved to Talk section of the site as it has taken on a new format and name, Euphoria.

Split into two segments, Euphoria will be 30 minutes of the same Dream with Emilyn– complete with quote of the week– and the second half will be something new called “The Vent”, co-hosted by Ian Cardenas.

So, DON’T WORRY. Emilyn is still here, just in a different spot on the site and with another reason to tune into the new show, Euphoria, Thursdays at 3:00pm.
