Hey Gang,

Rock Hard Abs – on a Tuesday?

Yes, on a Tuesday.

I just wanted to let you know that Episode 1 of Reporter Detective and Episode 17 of theBreakdown are now available. Both are amazing, and you should check them out. Short description, okay.

Reporter Detective: Episode 1 of Reporter Detective. In this episode, we are introduced to the close-minded ways of Sam Journalist and his loyal, yet naive, secretary Penny Dimes. While they discuss their financials, trouble is brewing in the city. Will Sam and Penny ever learn of it? Tune in next week to find out! Featuring the music “A Simple Jazz” by Derek Huelsman.

theBreakdown: The first show of the new year starts off with a bang! A surprise visit with a great in-studio reaction by Jeannie Melcher brings back Evan Naeher (WVCW’s own Trista Dandrea). We do a little news, and then play the first episode of REPORTER DETECTIVE. Later in the show, we play an interactive version of WOULD YOU RATHER? with the audience. Also, we punctuate the entire show with awesome mashups.

On the schedule for today:

32-Bit at Noon, for an hour of video game news and general NERD stuff.

Beloved DJ, Clara Peebles from 2-3.

The Aftermath from 7 to 9 PM, covering sports.

And Son of the Revolution from 9-11, with host Conor Murphy.

Miss any of it, and you are unamerican.

See you next Monday.

The Aftermath co-host Douglas Wyatt will be interviewing special guest Bring The Arsenal in the studio at 9pm Friday night. Bring The Arsenal is a hardcore Christian band from right here in Richmond. Bring The Arsenal, or BTA as their ever growing fan base has been known to call them, have been climbing their way into the hardcore music scene in Richmond, Lynchburg and even northern Virginia, but they are poised for a breakout onto the National scene. Their four song EP titled “EP is for Epic” is available on iTunes. The J-Lowdown is back!!!

Tune into the brand new J-Lowdown today! Here’s Justin with a preview!!

Getting original with it

Friends,

Did you wake up today?

I did.

I woke up with a most terrible feeling. Having donned my most winter worthy clothery, I exited my dwellings to enter a world of drudgery. People mindlessly shuffling from corner to corner, engaged in only their own curses without so much a cursory glance at the people beside them. The air was sad, the sky dark and the vibrations at an all time low.
Refusing to accept them, I charged over to my local congressperson and I declared, “You! Overpriced political stooge, to what do I owe this most abominable consternation?” To which, this ungendered servant of the people responded,

“lo, it is a most dark day. VCU students have returned to school, after a seemingly endless break. But heed the content of my admonition – do not give into despair and hopelessness. There is a silver lining, a cushion for this most terrible of pins.”

“Damn it, gender-specific title! Speak, tell me quickly what this secret is before I descend into naught more but pain and anguish!” I would below, my fear overcoming years of excellent breeding.

And then he told me. He told me a most marvelous tale, of brand new original content delivered for free to all willing persons. He told me of a radio station, right here at VCU, that was accepting of transfer students and new students and old students and grad students and anything else that just makes sense! Each day, new shows! Each week, new downloads! Each hour – special.

And then I woke up. I was sad for a while, but then I realized how meta is was that I had just dreamed a dream. I looked out the window, and the weather was the same.

I put on the same winter wear, and had the same terrible feelings.

But there were no genderless congresspersons. In fact, in this terrible reality, everyone had a gender. And it was time for school.

But you know what else was right about that dream?

From now until May, WVCW is going to be hitting you with so much free, original student driven content your face will explode like that alien – from that movie, Alien.

We will even give you free stuff, like cups and tote bags and wristbands and most of all – our love.

Keep an eye (and an ear) out for WVCW this semester, as we bring you new shows and events. Our schedule will be updating for the next week or so, but the podcasts are always available.

And try to make the best out of this first day of the new semester.

Continuing Coverage – Statement from Majority Leader Eric Cantor

0

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has released a statement in regards to the shooting in Tucson, Arizona where Congresswoman Gabrielle Gibbons and several others were injured during a shooting at a “Congress On Your Corner” meeting.

“Our nation was shocked by the tragedy in Arizona earlier today.  Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, members of her staff, and others became the victims of a senseless act of violence.   Congresswoman Giffords serves Arizona’s 8th District with distinction and thoughtful leadership, and it is horrifying that she was exposed to such violence at an event designed to reach the people she represents.   I couldn’t agree more with Speaker Boehner, who earlier said that, ‘an attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve.’  Along with our nation, this institution has suffered a horrible tragedy.   We are saddened, mourn those who lost their lives, and stand together in hopeful prayer for the recovery of the victims and their families.

“All legislation currently scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives next week is being postponed so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today’s tragedy.  Further information relating to a revised House schedule will be released tomorrow.”

WVCW will continue to cover this story as new details come to light.
