We’re psyched about another SubPop band this week, Beach House. Originally from Baltimore and veterans of Dan Deacon’s debauchery, Beach House has released their fourth full length, Bloom. They’ll be playing a few more southern dates this week and  next before they head to Europe. So for Richmonders, check them out online…lame, but our only [...]

This week’s featured new music is Father John Misty, Fear Fun. Father John Misty is the solo project from Josh Tillman, former Fleet Foxes drummer. Check him out on YouTube with “Nancy From Now On”

Local band Black Girls opened for the group at The National and The Head and the Heart [...]

February has been an exciting month at VCU, first Valentine’s Day, then Free Pancakes, and then Leap Day. We’re reminding you how lucky you were on Valentine’s Day to not have been on this blind date. We hosted a blind date in cooperation with Shafer for two lucky student contest winners. The date was a disaster [...]

Rag V & The Jive

“Rag V and The Jive” has come to save the local music scene. Since Y101 (Richmond’s former #1 rock station) folded in May, Richmond’s number one source for local music, “Community Service,” sadly went with it. Ever since there has been a void, but a void there is no longer! Every Sunday night from 9-10 Jim Ivins and Bobby Gary spotlight all things local music the Richmond and surrounding Virginia areas. Playing music that’s hot in the scene now (with some throwbacks as well), talking about bands, talking about upcoming shows, and having bands come on the show to do interviews and acoustic performances, “Rag V and The Jive” is here for fans and bands to come together as one to enrich the scene and help it grow.

And with a Twitter page to keep everyone up to date on what’s currently playing on air (@ragvandthejive), and a Facebook page to get all the latest info on who’s coming on the show, as well as in-studio pictures and videos (facebook.com/ragvandthejive), “Rag V and The Jive” is an interactive local music experience.

On-Air Time: Sundays 9-10pm

Hosts: Bobby Gary & Jim Ivins

About the hosts: Jim Ivins and Bobby Gary are not only both students at VCU, but are both active members of the local music scene. Having started playing music together when they were 15 in pop punk band Busted Wire, they have spent the last three years doing lead vocals/guitar and bass, respectively, in the acoustic pop rock band The Jim Ivins Band. After being staples on other local music radio shows, they were the perfect men for the job of revitalizing the local music radio scene.
