We’re psyched about another SubPop band this week, Beach House. Originally from Baltimore and veterans of Dan Deacon’s debauchery, Beach House has released their fourth full length, Bloom. They’ll be playing a few more southern dates this week and  next before they head to Europe. So for Richmonders, check them out online…lame, but our only [...]

This week’s featured new music is Father John Misty, Fear Fun. Father John Misty is the solo project from Josh Tillman, former Fleet Foxes drummer. Check him out on YouTube with “Nancy From Now On”

Yesterday March 21, SubPop darlings The Head and the Heart played a short set at Obama campaign headquarters downtown. The group donated their time before a show at The National to support a candidate they truly believe in. Local band Black Girls opened for the group at The National and The Head and the Heart [...]

February has been an exciting month at VCU, first Valentine’s Day, then Free Pancakes, and then Leap Day. We’re reminding you how lucky you were on Valentine’s Day to not have been on this blind date. We hosted a blind date in cooperation with Shafer for two lucky student contest winners. The date was a disaster [...]

theBreakdown Episode 31 – May 16th, 2011

A special hour long episode. Tonight, Tim Suddeth guests hosts as we search for someone to replace Trista. Our guests are John McWhorter, Trista D and Skylar Haigler. We discuss John’s House of Poop, Tim moving, his girlfriend, Wagyu Beef and everyones Grades. Later, we discuss a Moose Beard, Dead Jew Boats, Obama and we get a visit from Bradley the Banana.

theBreakdown Episode 30 – May 9th, 2011

With special guests Michael Larsen, Timothy Suddeth, William Wacker and Charlie Resnick. In this low energy, post-breakup show we discuss Jellybeans, Osama Bin Laden, a tiff between Will and Jacob on Facebook, Rep. Aaron Schock’s abs, Batman signs, do a live acapella performance of Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys and go over Jacob’s set and his tweets. This is Trista’s LAST SHOW as the co-host, so we live it up! At the end is an especially tender moment, but for reasons you wouldn’t expect!

theBreakdown Episode 29 – May 2nd, 2011

With special guests Timothy Douglas, Trish Eggerton and Logan Gillepsie. An extra punchy and hilarious episode of theBreakdown. Jacob has spent the past hour on the radio doing You’re Probably Right and is now doing another 2. We discuss nipples to an irritating point (like Trista’s pointy nipples), go over Jacob’s new character Trace Tracerman and read his publicist release “so we know who he is.” We also discuss Nazi’s, Movies U Lik and who knows what else. It’s a madcap episode of theBreakdown, so buckle in.

Watch Jacob’s stand-up from his comedy final, the benefit for the Richmond Triangle Players. Nailed it!

Heres my warm-up from Monday night.

theBreakdown Episode 28 – April 25th, 2011

With special guests Evan Naeher and Henry Jensen. A punchy episode of theBreakdown, where we discuss the news and Donald Trump’s politics. We play a rousing game of would you rather, where we ask: Would you rather Stack Paper or Stack Bitches? The answers may surprise you! Also on tap; Angry Birds, Swamp People and Evan Naeher as FASHION COP.

Don’t forget to come out Wednesday night and see Comedy Benefit for the Richmond Triangle Players. It’s a $5 cover (all ages) but the money goes to support the theatre. Comedians include Jacob McFadden, John Reaves and Jeff Hornung, among others.

theBreakdown Episode 27 – April 18th, 2011

With special guests Cory Alexander, Charlie Resnick and Justin Lowenhagen. No Reporter Detective due to Jacob’s hard drive crashing last week. We discuss food, gay employee pay, racism, canned foods, plastic surgery and the Netherworld. An action packed episode of theBreakdown with a long form, horrible joke in the middle.

Don’t forget to come to Strange Matter on Tuesday, April 19th to see Jacob perform live stand up comedy. You can check out the reason we missed last week at this link, starting around the beginning.

theBreakdown Episode 26 – April 4th, 2011

With special guests Tim Suddeth and Evan Naeher. This episode features no new Reporter Detective, because Jacob thought we would win the championship. They do discuss the riot, finding a new co-host and spend the entire first half hour singing songs of love and life lost. It’s a madcap episode of theBreakdown, that begs the question; Will Trista ever let rabbits eat food or will she starve them all to death for her own sick, sexual desires? You’ll have to listen to find out!

Skip ahead to minute 14 to see me utterly fail at Standing Up Comedy. And read my first review here.

theBreakdown Episode 25 – March 28th, 2011

With special guests Henry Jensen and Claire Morra. Episode 6 of Reporter Detective debuts in it’s rough form, and we discuss Michelle Bachmann. Later, we make some prank phone calls to DJ’s Tim Suddeth and Cory Johnson, then wake up John McWhorter. Jacob confesses which male celebrity he’d go gay for, and Claire Morra plays some songs. We end the show with some interactive Would You Rathers? before Jacob has to run down to do live standing up comedy at Cafe Diem.

Check out Comedy on the Compass March 30th. It’s in the Compass. Here’s a link to the Facebook page.

theBreakdown Episode 24 – March 21st, 2011

With special guests Jeannie Melcher, Skylar “Love Captain” Haigler and Bradley the Banana. No Reporter Detective, but a replay of Episode 2 and an update on the story. Also, we discuss the weather, Spring Break, mass transit and read some of my bad jokes. Later in the show, we receive a surprise visit from Bradley the Banana. He plays Would You Rather? and we have a swell time.

Check out the video of me doing LIVE STANDING UP COMEDY at this link. It’s funner than HIV or AIDS!

theBreakdown Episode 23 – March 7th, 2011

With special guests Charlie Resnick and Henry “Captain Beefy” Jensen. No Reporter Detective, but a whole lot of content. We discuss HIV, beads of water, earthworms and Mercury in the first 20 minutes. From there, we hit up the news (3D PORN, WHOO) and discuss twitter. Later on in the show we discuss Jacob’s neuroses and his new student media org, Potboiler. We end the show with some celebrity Would You Rathers? and run a little over. Programming note: We’ll be missing next weeks show! #assjob

E-mail potboilervcu@gmail.com if you want to get involved or more information. Reporter Detective and theBreakdown come back on March 21st.

theBreakdown Episode 22 – February 28th, 2011

With special guests Cory Alexander and Tim Suddeth. We start the show with some lively Oscars commentary, then move into the news. After a lengthy and mouth watering talk about breast milk ice cream, we debut Episode 5 of Reporter Detective. We play with funny voices, do the final Black History Month segment and then play our new game, “Ethnic Slang.” We end the show with a great Would You Rather? from Trista and a lightning round WYR by Tim Suddeth. This show is overwhelmingly full of content!

Check out Mainstream with Cory and G33k 5p3ak on WVCW soon!

theBreakdown Episode 21 – February 21st, 2011

With special guests William Wacker and guest board-op Cory Alexander. In this show we discuss whales, sex, and Obama fighting. We learn a little about the Presidents. We hear a Google interpretation of the Rainbow Coalition. We discuss our experience working on Video Game Theatre, and about me almost hitting a guy with a bike lock while drunk. Also, we play some Would You Rather? Featuring the music of William Wacker.

theBreakdown Episode 20 – February 14th, 2011

With the cast of Video Game Theatre! On our very special Valentines Day episode we welcome back Trista Dandrea from her long absence in Los Angeles. We do our Valentines Day shout-outs and talk about Video Game Theatre, the show that we will both be in. We have Jason Gardner, Tim Suddeth, Liz Strauss, Henry Jensen, Rachel Shigley, Cory Alexander, Charlie Resnick and Jeannie Melcher in the studio to talk about the show. We also play Would You Rather, hear some news, listen to the wrong version of Reporter Detective and explore a little more Black History by Google. Finally, we discuss ticket giveaways and reenact a scene from Maury.
Come see Video Game Theatre on Friday and Saturday (February 18/19th) at 8PM and Sunday (February 20th) at 2PM. The show is free at Shafer Street Playhouse.

theBreakdown Episode 19 – February 7th, 2011

With extra special co-host, Johnathan Alexander McWhorter IV. Special guests Tim Suddeth and Cory Alexander. In this episode, the boys get AIDS tested, play the dating game, read famous black monologues with Google and play Would You Rather? Also, information concerning a very interesting theatre project and theBreakdown’s ticket giveaways!

theBreakdown Episode 18 – January 31st, 2011

With special guests Timothy Douglas, Justin Lowenhagen, John Reaves and Dave Garlan. In this episode, we play Would You Rather?, discuss the news and pre-empt stand-up routines. Trista doesn’t laugh, but everyone else does. Also, a story about an abortion that makes everyone uncomfortable!

theBreakdown Episode 17 – January 24th, 2011

The first show of the new year starts off with a bang! A surprise visit with a great in-studio reaction by Jeannie Melcher brings back Evan Naeher (WVCW’s own Trista Dandrea). We do a little news, and then play the first episode of REPORTER DETECTIVE. Later in the show, we play an interactive version of WOULD YOU RATHER? with the audience. Also, we punctuate the entire show with awesome mashups.

theBreakdown EXTRASODE – December 20th, 2010

This is a short mp3 containing a polished version of the Daytime Emmy winning 1980′s sitcom’s lost script. In this unearthed episode of Only Women Bleed Trista and her mom get a little closer.

theBreakdown Episode 16 – December 20th, 2010

Featuring Evan Naeher and Justin Lowenhagen. This episode features the musical selections of Jacob’s girlfriend, so it’s a much younger sound. Think Woody Allen younger. Also, we have double news anchors and the return of You Should Already Know. We end the show with a play called “Only Women Bleed.” In the meantime, we discuss porn. Sort of.

theBreakdown Episode 15 – December 6th, 2010

The Post-Dominion Christmas Parade / “Rock Hard Santa Abs” McFadden Dance Party show. Not sure what happened during this show, all I know is that it required editing for some choice words…MUST MEAN THIS SHOW WAS QUITE THE RAGER!

Also, featuring Dennis Cigal and Iron Mike Krecker. We discuss soccer, tell old stories and introduce a new segment about Samuel L. Jackson. So download this, listen in and don’t be offended so easily, Hoss.

theBreakdown Episode 14 – November 30th, 2010

We have a special edition of theBreakdown. Trista planned the whole show for us this week, but I forgot to tell her that so it should work out just fine. No rants this week, but expect them to come back as soon as you start kissing on your girlfriend (like herpes). Special Guest Evan Naeher and an undisclosed second guest, who may or may not be carbon based. We’re going to have a great time and give you bitingly sarcastic social commentary. Trista believes in an inherent goodness that exists within our society and I know we’re all soulless, vanity obsessed bad guys waiting for Jesus Seagal to whip up some respect and punch it into our throats.

theBreakdown Episode 13 – November 22nd, 2010

Talking about Lady Gaga, Barbeque and Red Cod Pieces. Trista will be bringing in the news FOR ONCE. We’ve missed it! This week I may even do some rants. Plus, I totally invited some guys on for tonight, but I was pretty drunk and forgot who – I know that Grandpa Jay is coming back, after his short trip to Club Med

theBreakdown Episode 12 – November 15th, 2010

theBreakdown is back with not 2, not 3 but FOUR guests (so good I had to spell it). From The Conciliation Project we have Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates (Dr. T to all your theatre people, like Trista) and Trey Hartt. They’re promoting Unequal Access: A Journey Toward HOME , which is happening this Friday at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, right here in Richmond. At 9, John McWhorter and future lover Logan Gillespie will come in studio for a lighter portion of the show.

theBreakdown Episode 11 – November 8th, 2010

Tonight we’ll be discussing the news, ranting about construction and Timothy Douglas is in the studio. As if that wasn’t keen enough, we’ve got some spiffy surprises in store! Also, my old man is coming into town before the show to help me fill out some loan stuff. He’s always got something to say, so maybe I’ll bring in a pearl of wisdom or two. You know, tonight the Steelers and the Bengals are facing off during my show. I wonder who will win; Ochocinco’s ego or the ego of the entire Pittsburgh area?

theBreakdown Episode 10 – November 1st, 2010

John McWhorter, Trish Eggerton, Jacob, and Trista discuss last week’s Student Media Halloween partyJohn’s new haircutand Jacob’s trip to Kentucky.

theBreakdown Episode 9 – October 25th, 2010

Tonight Justin Lowenhagen is guesting to discuss his new show, The J-Lowdown (Sounds familiar, huh?) which premiers Wednesday night at 7. Also, a rant about the station and news. Extra special treat for tonight – Trista got sick of my music and is playing her own. Plus more excitement we can’t mention. News, Rants, Stories and Explosions!

theBreakdown Episode 8 – October 18th, 2010

Due to some drunken revelry with my father and football the other night, my baby brother and he will not be attending the show. However, John McWhorter is still going to fill in with some news for Trista. Trista is busy making the big bucks, but will be coming in the second half of the show. We’ll probably find a guest too, but we like to keep you guessing.

theBreakdown Episode 7 – October 11th, 2010

Breasts, street racing and gluten free groceries on theBreakdown! A fun night in studio when Jacob comes in after having drank an entire pitcher of PBR in less than 40 minutes. Listen to the progression, from fun grump to the stomach ache in the last twenty minutes! Also, Iron Mike Krecker comes in and actually speaks this time, while Trish Eggerton takes to the microphone like a fish and water. Finally, John McWhorter comes in and does fan mail, this week with a very disturbing twist. News, Rants, Stories and Explosions!

theBreakdown Episode 6 – October 4th, 2010

Another episode of one of the most popular talk shows on WVCW Radio, It’s more awesomeness with Jacob & Trista and guests on theBreakdown. Featuring Jeff Early, Justin Lowenhagen and the return of Grandpa Jay, who checks us into his own home! Also, a spirited debate in a melting studio.

theBreakdown Episode 5 – September 27th, 2010

Featuring fellow station DJ, Anthony Ke, and VCU student Travis Pottle. This episode is packed with domestic spies, porn and popcorn. News, Rants, Stories and Explosions!

Featuring Jacob’s high school sweethearts Michael “Mike” Krecker and Eric “Black Santa” Mills with his acoustic guitar. News, Rants, Stories and Explosions!
