Listeners!  You helped make one hell of a show, so we’re repaying the favor with tickets!  As celebration of Portal 2’s release this Tuesday and music in general, Nerdicus Maximus is giving away a pair of tickets to see Jonathan Coulton at the Hat Factory on May 5th.  You may know JoCo from the Code Monkeys theme song or the Portal credits song, “Still Alive,” or just about any of his dozens and dozens of cleverly hilarious tunes.  Now, you can go see him in Richmond!  All you have to do is send us your best piece of Portal-related Art and/or Craft.

There are, of course, a few rules to follow:

1. We will take ANYTHING even remotely artsy or crafty!  A song, a poem, a sculpture, a drawing, a poster design you made.  If it’s cool, we want to see it.
2. Put your heart into this.  We want to give the tickets to the person who deserves it the most.  Just because you can’t draw doesn’t mean you can’t write a beautiful poem and vice versa.
3. Don’t copy someone else’s art.  That’s just lame, man.  Why would you even want to?
4. When you submit your pieces, make sure you have something there to prove it was yours or else you’ll be disqualified.  That means take a picture of you with the thing you made, even if it’s a picture of you next to your laptop with your drawing open mid-work.
   1. side-note:  Sending us pictures of your actual progress with help your case more than anything.  It also adds to the answer to “HOW’D YOU DO THAT?!”
5. Yes, we’ll take more than one submission, but they need to be quality submissions.  That being said, we’ll only take up to three.

That’s it!  As long as you put your heart into it, it’ll show.  Next Friday, we’ll decide the winner of the contest and announce who gets the tickets on-air between 2-3pm.  These tickets are yours for the taking!  So really, get to work!

Coming up shortly thereafter is Wake Up Call with Matt and Chris, who asked me to read this. Caution: The surgeon general of rock warns that hearing this show is equal to 29 orgasms.

At noon, the Jeff and Guest Show is back. Bill caught a late-night flight back home for the holidays, so Jeff’s roommate is coming in. I’ve been assured he is quite “radio savvy” and “won’t touch anything.”

At 4, Christina Leslie will be in the studio. Next week is her first real show (which I said last week!), so catch her to see what you can look forward too.

Lauren is out of town for the Holidays, so there will be no Rock Island Line this week. Send her your complaints!

At 6, DJ Five-0 is bringing you Classic Metal Mondays with the music of Queen and a special guest to talk about the Crisis Intervention Team.

After EWE, we’ve got Wake-up Call with Chris and Matt. They asked me to read this: “Warning. If you want your asses blown out, stay in the room.” It’s actually a very sophisticated reference, and one I’m proud of making.

At noon, The Jeff and Guest Show is back with Jeff and the Guest of the week. Remember those boxes in Mario with the big question mark?  That’s today’s show, but instead of one coin we’re getting a green mushroom.

From 1 til 4 we have a series of hot young DJs, including Christina Leslie who will be starting her new show next week. Catch her before she goes all “Hollywood” on us, today at 4.

Classic Metal Mondays with DJ Five-0 starts up. Remember when I said our Monday was mostly lead-free? Well here’s the chunk of heavy metal that’s certifying these goods are Made In China. Today DJ Five-0 will be playing Black Sabbath’s first album and a hit from the heaviest of metal gods, Spongebob Squarepants.

Finally, tonight at 8 o clock, theBreakdown is back with not 2, not 3 but FOUR guests (so good I had to spell it). From The Conciliation Project we have Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates (Dr. T to all your theatre people, like Trista) and Trey Hartt. They’re promoting Unequal Access: A Journey Toward HOME, which is happening this Friday at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, right here in Richmond. At 9, John McWhorter and future lover Logan Gillespie will come in studio for a lighter portion of the show.

Due to the special nature of tonight’s broadcast, we will not be having a Rants segment as per usual. Instead, we’ll be bringing back the Top Ten.

8 o’clock brings the return of theBreakdown, the only show on WVCW that can call itself the bee’s kneesiest on the station. We really are something keen, so hopefully you’ll tune in to hear us complain about airplanes, the rally to restore sanity and some headlines in the news. Also, John McWhorter for the first hour and whoever else we can drag in studio. News, Rants, Stories and Explosions, only at 8.

It feels great to be home, with all of you. I liked Louisville, but the grime and pestilence of this city is a hard thing to wash off a man’s soul. This is where we belong.

Rock Hard Abs here. Did you know that it’s Monday? I did, and that’s why I’m going to tell you about our great programming tonight.

The Rock Island Line is not going to be airing tonight, but Classic Metal Mondays has got me all excited. Why?

Because DJ Five-0 is doing a Listener Giveaway. Listen to his show tonight, live, and have a chance to win an autographed glossy photo of Lita Ford. Details of the giveaway can be found by tuning into Classic Metal Mondays at 6 until 7 o clock.

After you get your fill of PRIZE WINNING, listen to theBreakdown with Jacob and TristaJohn McWhorter. Due to some drunken revelry with my father and football the other night, my baby brother and he will not be attending the show. However, John McWhorter is still going to fill in with some news for Trista. Trista is busy making the big bucks, but will be coming in the second half of the show. We’ll probably find a guest too, but we like to keep you guessing.

If you’re looking for the lovely and talented Rachel Solomon she has moved her showtime to 7pm on Friday. Her new show is Feed Ya Head w/ Rach & Zach, so be sure to check that out. We’ll miss her from our Monday family, but she’ll have all the success in the world over on that hedonistic day of partying.

Also, this morning we finished up yet another specialty program; Soothing Study Sounds with Winkler PM. That will be launching next week at ten, followed by Wake Up Call with Chris & Matt (which you can also hear this week on Wednesday and Friday) at 11 and then the brand new Jeff and Guest Show debuts at noon. All this coming October 25th, including the return of the Rock Island Line.

Don’t forget the WVCW Art Contest (with 250 dollar prize) or the WVCW Costume Contest on the 28th.

As you may know Rock Hard Abs wears the Promotions hat, but right under that hat is an equally large hat titled Talk.

WVCW is launching four new talk shows before the end of October.

On Mondays we’ll be introducing the Jeff and Guest Show, starting on the 25th.

Tuesdays will see both The Samra Show and Nerdicus Maximus, starting this week on the 19th.

And Saturday nights will see the addition of the aptly named Nick @ Nite, starting October 30th.

And as long we’re shamelessly plugging talk shows, remember you can still catch theBreakdown with Jacob and Trista every Monday night from 8-10pm.
