VCU Struggles in A-10 Home Opener
VCU’s tough start to the lacrosse season continued at Cary Street Field on Saturday, where the Rams fell to the St. Joseph’s Hawks, 18-7. VCU now sits at 2-8 on the season, 0-2 in conference play, while St. Joe’s moves to 5-5, 1-1 in conference play.
The game was close initially, with Claire Murphy evening the score at 1-1 within the first four minutes of the game. St. Joe’s then went on a six goal run, one of a handful of four or more goal runs that the Hawks had during the game, which gave them a lead that they would not give up. One bright spot for the Rams was Sky Hyatt, who scored twice during the game, a team high. The Rams trailed 10-3 at the half, before St. Joe’s opened the second half with another six goal run to put the game completely out of reach. Ria Peralta made six saves in the game for the Rams, who did not give up despite the deficit as Hyatt and Ayana Gordon added two of the four second half goals that VCU scored.
VCU’s next game is on the road against Duquesne on April 6th, while their next home contest is set for April 13th at Cary Street Field against George Washigton.
