Richmond, Va., – Following their four-goal performance Friday night, the VCU women’s soccer team was not able to post a goal in today’s game against the Marshall Thundering Herd as the Herd defeated the Rams 1-0. The win for Marshall was their first victory of the year and the loss for VCU was their first this season.

Both teams had multiple opportunities to score throughout the game as both teams took a combined 30 shots, VCU with 15 and Marshall with 15. Marshall was able to get a multiple opportunities to score from corner kicks as they had eight in the game, six of them in the first half. One of those corners at the 19th minute led to a goal as forward, Ashley Meltzer, was able to convert with a header assisted from Erin Simmons, which ultimately gave the Thundering Herd the victory.

VCU Freshman forward, Julia Suarez, had showed flashes of potential in the game taking seven shots, three on goal, but was unable to get the ball past Marshall goalie, Lizzie Kish.

VCU falls to 1-1 this season and Marshall improved to 1-1 this season. VCU’s women’s soccer team returns to action this Friday when they play the College of Charleston Cougars this Friday at 5:00.
