The VCU women’s soccer team edged the Rhode Island Rams Thursday night, scoring first and having the last word in two overtimes to add a win to their season record. Sophomore forward Niki Malancone and freshman midfielder Lyndsey Gutzmer notched goals for the Black and Gold, with Malancone putting VCU ahead and on the board first in the opening period. Gutzmer’s goal in the second overtime won the game for the VCU Rams, helping the Black and Gold win their ninth game of the season.
Only one shot was attempted on junior goalkeeper Audrey Sanderson, who, although allowing that shot past, was pressure-free the rest of the game, as the VCU offense kept the ball at the other end of the field. With only one game remaining, VCU sits at a 9-4-3 record, hoping to reach double-digit wins at La Salle on Sunday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m.
