Host: Cory Alexander, Joshua Norton Lee and Charlie Resnick
Cory Alexander:
From the harsh rural-suburbia of most southern NOVA, Cory Alexander is a lover of art in all forms. At 18 years-old, the former Music major, current World Cinema major, is a fountain of knowledge for everything VCUarts. Usually found at the WVCW station, working a something or doing another– as he does work on the website from time to time. He is a member of the Commonwealth Singers, was an actor in Video Game Theatre, and loves terrible movies. Fall 2011 will be his last semester on-air.

Charlie Resnick:
Charlie Resnick, a “devilishly handsome” 19 year old, hails from NOVA and is an active member of the theatreVCU community. A performance major, Charlie recently worked on Video Game Theatre, is an avid Star Wars fan, and is fueled mainly by humus and herbal tea.
.
Joshua Norton Lee (born Ryan Lee) is a recent addition to the WVCW lineup. Simultaneously being raised in the DC metropolitan area and the Wilmington, NC metropolitan ghetto, Josh has directed Hills Like White Elephants, 1984, a collection of Monty Python skits, and a self-written variety show titled “Talentshowpocalypse Now: Apocalypse Talent Show 2: Talent Show Apocalypse”, in addition to having acted in over 30 roles, dramatic, cinematic, and improvisational. He is currently taking courses part-time at VCU and is hoping to matriculate into a major in World Cinema Studies.

Spring 2012:
The Mainstream, Session 203 – The Elephant Man Interview
New host, Joe Freeman’s, second interview, and with some frequenters of the Mainstream, TheatreVCU. Part of The Elephant Man cast drops by the to talk about the show, rehearsals, and the merriment of being an actor. Post-host, now-producer Cory Alexander drops in to ask some questions and act sheepish. Listen in ya’ll, it’s gon be good!
The Mainstream, Session 202- Dance Interview
Hooray for first interviews! New host, Joe Freeman, takes the wheel as interviewer now that the show is sans the old gang. But he has help! Members of the dance department’s student concert, “Divergence”, come by to answer the hard questions about the show and being a dance major. Clap your hands, say Yeah~! for the new interviewing interviewer.
The Mainstream, Session 201- New Beginnings!
Woo, Alright! New semester, New host, and new Mainstream !!
The Cory Sessions
Fall 2011:
The Mainstream, Session 23 – Product Placement
Lacking the pensive drawl of the punster, the line up is OG as the boys of the banner talk to Sophomore vocal performance major Colby Mullen about the goings-ons of the vocal department as it prepares to present its fall Opera Scenes. Charlie Resnick doubles as Guest number 2, talking about his role in this week’s SALT production, Elephant’s Graveyard. Praise, Glorification, Accolades; my mic skills are perfection. Enjoy.
The Mainstream, Session 22 – Hypotension SFX Intensive
The heart beats slower as the general thumpa-thumpa cadence of the show matches the intensity of its guest. The boys are back in town, though I think they never left, and ramble, ramble, ramble while trying to interview guest cinema major Shane about the profession, the major, the life, the times and the showcase at the end of the week.
The Mainstream, Session 21 – Come Together
A bit the odder; sports. Quidditch is the times, the motion, the catalyst that keeps this episodes energy of activation so low. Emily and Troy grace the mic with their literature-based, full-contact sports jargon; Charlie has too much work to do; and I’m slightly spaced. To live in 4 dimensions is a steep task, it’s a good thing this show only occupies 1.
The Mainstream, Session 20 – Forward Slash, Backspace
Back from the break– once juvenated before, now juvenated again– we find our heroes joined by chance and fate this week. The guest, Cat Wheelehan, comes 2 steps ahead, sending the boys 1 step back and at the crux of their encounter they discuss theatre. It’s fast time with “Grease”‘s Sandra D. on WVCW.
The Mainstream, Session 19 – Bindy
Technical difficulties and an absent mind has led this episode to be guestless and impulsive. Hear the carnage that is an hour of Cory Alexander and Joshua Lee: a symphony of thought, an exploration of event, and the rambling rambling wailing sounds of two men on the brink of extinction. Enjoy !
The Mainstream, Session 18 – Sexy Sax Riff
Back again for the next time, Cory Alexander, Charlie Resinck and Josh Lee come at you all together for the first time in a few weeks– and this time they have friends ! Sax Man John Barker and Piano Playa Nick Berkin drop by to discuss what’s up with Jazz,”Shakespeare’s R&J” and the Josh’s goings-ons.
The Mainstream, Session 17 – R & J
Prerecorded and finely edited, Most of the cast of the male production of “Shakespeare’s R&J” are in the studio to help shed some light on the new Mainstage production, and have some laughs too, as they are skewered by Cory– who is not a fan of the source material– and Josh– who provides the puns. Here is the arts news for that day.
The Mainstream, Session 16 – Ballet ?
It’s Thursday, the best day, and the boys are back to tackle to issues of modern society: long weeks, fine arts student media organizations and dance!– as they are joined in the studio by the lovely, bubbly Molly Rae Pearl, dance major friend and costumer to VCU Dance’s presentation of Ballet Hispanico.
The Mainstream, Session 15 – Queue the Solo Music !
Solo dolo this time, Cory Alexander is with new intro this week (Toxic by Mark Ronson). The topic for today is cartoons, as our host goes on a 1 hour rant about the differences between “Adventure Time” and “Regular Show.” An extension of a summer session: “can’t breathe through my nose,” “if you take something to be mundane, make it amazing,” “I miss my baby.”
The Mainstream, Session 14 – VCUarts: An Introduction, Part II
Joining now in the Fall semester of 2011, the lovely new co-host Joshua Norton Lee is in the studio in stead of Charlie Resnick as they go through the arts of VCU for the second time. The boys talk the talk, joke the joke, and introduce a filler section called “What We Watch in World Cinema!”
The Mainstream, Session 13 – The Punster
Classes have started, what joy ! This session is the beginning of something grand: a great academic year, work year, and radio year with the lovely Charlie Resnick and new co-host, Joshua Norton Lee. Tune in as we discuss the current theatre season and give Josh a good poke to the gulliver.
Summer Mainstream:
The Mainstream, Session 12 – *Pissed-off Face Pan*
I have a problem with award shows. This may sound unusual, but it’s the topic of this Summer Mainstream session. Cory rambles for an hour about the MTV Movie Awards, the Oscars, and the whole award show dealio in general. Bring your scream repellent cause it’s gonna get hoarse. (Also, we explore movie music.)
The Mainstream, Session 11 – Funny Ha-ha
False promises and a single man are what’s in store during this summer session of your favorite arts show on WVCW. Cory, alone this session, discusses his growing love for humor: touching on Richmond’s comedy scene and the different types of comedy there are. Tune in and get schooled on the art of the funny.
Spring 2011:
The Mainstream, Session 10 – May 5, 2011
Last session of the season and it couldn’t have been more heartful. Charlie is here, along with guest Molly Pearl and Kassy Edwards, to talk about surviving their first year at VCUarts. All four corners of the arts world are represented, and nothing is spared as the four breathe a sigh of relief at the end of an age.
The Mainstream, Session 9 – April 28, 2011
It’s been a long week, so Charlie is taking the night off and Cory is manning the show by himself. But he is not too alone, Tim Suddeth, host of G33k 5peak, and Fionnuala Bradley have come to watch him flounder around the studio for an hour. The trio cover film, photo, employment, and board games, so tune and learn a little.
The Mainstream, Session 8 – April 21, 2011
One of our best podcast yet, Charlie conducted this session of the Mainstream. Charlie has brought in guest Caroline Miller and friend to talk about the Film program, Disney/ Pixar, and the endless opportunities of the arts major. Also, we listen to some Pogo music.
The Mainstream, Session 7 – April 14, 2011
What is a department without it’s people ? I wouldn’t know, but today is Theatre Day! Charlie and Cory are joined by Benjamin Burke, freshman Scene Design major, and Trista Dandrea, senior Theatre Performance major and Co-host of theBreakdown, in this episode all about a department of people– if that’s what a department can be.
The Mainstream, Session 6 – April 7, 2011
A marvel among radio shows and a feat un-exaggerated, this episode of The Mainstream is the most non-directional yet. Cory and Charlie are joined by Henry Jensen, Patrick Clark, and clothing designer Andrew Wolfe and talk about everything. Wookies, “True Grit”, ice cream, and networking. Tune in (or don’t) for this most eclectic session of VCUarts news to date ?
Andrew Wolfe is a business major who owns and operates his own clothing company, DIRGY. Only a first year, Wolfe already has his clothes in a local store, Turnstyle, and was one of the designers for VCU’s annual fashion show, STRUT. Running a business from his dorm room, Wolfe is working on expanding to more stores and making DIRGY a way of life.
The Mainstream, Session 5 – March 31, 2011
Charlie is back, and turning 20! Join the devilishly handsome Mr. Resnick and I as we are joined by special guests, Jon Dombroski and Josh Bennett (both senior art majors). We talk about salt, SALT, and NOT marble, eventually reaching a very deep discussion about John and Josh’s exhibit on April 8th, “The Vacancy Project.” Listen in for razor wit and to learn about the art of iron melting.
John Dombroski and Josh Bennett are both senior Art majors (John in Kinetic Imaging and Josh in Sculpture) who have worked together for the past year to present “The Vacancy Project,” opening April 8th, for only April 8th, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
The Mainstream, Session 4 – March 24, 2011
This is a short one, but still packed with everything you love– except Charlie. Host Cory Alexander flies solo for the first 15 minutes but is joined after the break by the lovely and talented Gianna Barone and Jessica Harika. They discuss VCUmusic’s upcoming production of “Hansel and Gretel” as part of Opera Theatre and being music majors (as they are the first to come on the show), as I complement them profusely. It’s a good’un, so take listen.
The Mainstream, Session 3 – March 17, 2011
Hopefully aired over Spring Break, broadcast 3 of The Mainstream stars myself, sans co-host, and special guest Phillip Nesmith in my first radio interview! We have fun as Phil and I discuss his work in Iraq, his photo development process, and how he has work showing in Dubai! No music, but a good show for art majors of any media. Check it out.
Phil Nesmith, a BFA Sculpture student here at VCU, is already a well established artist. Already having work show across the nation, Phil comes to us pursing his degree while already teaching classes at VSU and VMFA. Six pieces from his series “My Baghdad” are being show in an exhibit entitled “The Spectacle of War” in Dubai, UAE and his latest series “Flow” has been received extremely well. Before our interview Phil had recently did an interview with NPR.
The Mainstream, Session 2 – March 10, 2011
A brilliant display of my sound board control, the second broadcast of the Mainstream is a triumph. With Special Guest Cassie Mulheron and Brianna Gribben, we discuss G-Sex, The Women’s Spring Art Show, and listen to female Jazz and Soul greats. GO SEE THE ART SHOW, still up in the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies building (915 W. Franklin St.).
Cassie Mulheron, A double major in Photography and Women’s Studies, was a guest on the second broadcast of The Mainstream. In addition to graduating this Spring she is also very active in her media, just look at her work in the attached link.
The Mainstream Session 1 – March 3, 2011
This is the first live broadcast of the Mainstream! My devilishly handsome co-host, Charlie Resnick, and I introduce the show and ourselves, talk about the SALT production of Henry V, the Oscars, and sip the “Proverbial Tea.” Listen up all of you who missed it!
