News Headlines April 11, 2019

Blizzard warnings have been reported across the midwest, meteorologists have been anticipating the heavy widespread of snow as “record breaking”. Up to 2.5 feet of snow is expected to fall in Minnesota and South Dakota with winds going at a speed of 50 miles per hour, creating life-threatening conditions. These strong wind conditions are also creating dangerous potential for wildfire in states such as Texas and New Mexico.

A new report by a philanthropic organization reveals that the state of virginia has been behind other states in finding places for foster children. Data that spans ten years has shown that Virginia has placed seven percent of foster children with relatives otherwise known as “kinship care” while the national average is thirty two percent. In response to this new data the general assembly has several new laws including 3.7 million dollars in funding for reforming the foster care system.

VCU announced last Thursday that they will be adding a minor in LGBT+ and queer studies in the fall of 2019, making VCU the first public virginia university to have a minor regarding LGBT+ studies.
