News Headlines March 19

Arlington county’s board approved a 23 million dollar incentives package for Amazon to build a new headquarters in crystal city. Supporters are saying it’ll be an opportunity for job growth while opposers are concerned about increased traffic and rent, driving out lower income families. Board chair christian dorsey says that he is confident that the county can manage those impacts.

Dorothy Height, who was a civil rights movement leader, is now going to receive a historical marker in the blackwell neighborhood. Height was a Richmond native who was born in the blackwell neighborhood. A public ceremony is to be held at the First Baptist church of south richmond.

In the A-10 Tournament taking place in Barclays center, located in Brooklyn. VCU saw defeat from Rhode Island in the Friday afternoon Basketball game. The final score ended up being 75-70 with VCU losing the Atlantic 10 tournament for three years in a row now.
