News Headlines March 27

A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 Max had to make an emergency landing yesterday in Orlando, Florida, after experiencing an engine problem, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The crew returned to the airport safely, and no passengers were on board. AP News reported the aircraft was being ferried to Victorville, California, where Southwest is storing the airplanes. The 737 Max was grounded after a deadly crash involving a plane of the same model in Ethiopia. It was the second fatal crash involving the airplane.

Director of the Virginia Department of Justice Andrew K. Block Jr. is stepping down after leading the agency for five years. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Block was a part of a “sweeping transformation” of the juvenile justice system that has dramatically reduced the amount of children who go into state custody. Governor Ralph Northam has named Valerie Boykin, the previous deputy director of the juvenile justice department, to succeed Block.

Norfolk police has announced that Nate Evans, Lee-Davis High School graduate and College of William & Mary football player, was being robbed when he was fatally shot in Norfolk Thursday night. Kri’Shawn D. Beamon, 20, of Chesapeake was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree murder, robbery and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The robbery took place late Thursday just before midnight near Old Dominion University’s campus.
