Richmond, Va., – The VCU Rams Women’s Soccer Team were shut out for the third consecutive game as they lost to the James Madison Dukes 2-0 in an in-state showdown. The Dukes proved to be the more aggressive team as they outshot the Rams 16-10.

VCU had two opportunities to score in the first half as senior midfielder, Sharon Wojcik, had her shot blocked by JMU goalkeeper, Ellen Forrest, in the 29th minute. Sophomore defenseman, Megan Dell, had a header that went just high at the 30th minute. VCU senior goalkeeper, Emma Kruse, came up big in the first half with a couple of saves to prevent JMU from scoring.

The Dukes wasted no time scoring in the second half as JMU Forward, Ashley Herndon, scored just 43 seconds into the second half off a pass from Allie Bunner. VCU forward, Kelly Graves, scored at the 56th minute, but an offside was called against VCU which took the goal away from the freshman. Six minutes later, Graves had another opportunity to score, but Forrest was able to make a diving save. The Dukes put the icing on the cake as Brittany Borum scored an unassisted goal at the 75th minute.

With the loss, VCU falls to 1-3 this season and while James Madison improves to 2-2 Coastal Carolina. The Rams will take the field once next Sunday when they play the #9 Virginia Tech Hokies.
