Despite not having released a full project in over two years, Brazilian singer-songwriter Rubel has given his fans a few singles throughout this past year. The latest comes in the form of a cover of Os Mutantes’ “Baby” with MPB and Tropicália legend Gal Costa.
The duo’s live rendition comes from a February concert in Rio de Janeiro, providing a new take on the Tropicália classic. The stripped down, simplistic, acoustic duet works incredibly well for the song making it much more emotive and laid back than the original.
Overall I give “Baby” a 9/10. I love the end result of Gal and Rubel together and would love to see them make a studio version of this.
