VCU field hockey came into their game with a 8-2 record and looking to rebound after picking up their second loss of the season. Appalachian State was coming in as big underdogs with a record of 3-7.

Appalachian State started out fast with the first shot of the game a minute in the first period that went far right. The game then slowed down for the next 10 minutes with the ball going back and forth with no team having the advantage at all. VCU was able to get a few nice shots on goal that just missed. Losing strong opportunities to pull away in the game. Which Appalachian State was able to respond to put the first points up on the board with 15 minutes left in the first half that gave them momentum for the rest of the half. Appalachian continued to attack with some good shots on goal, but the half ended with a score of 1-0.

VCU came in the second half looking to comeback from their disappointing first half. That is exactly what they did scoring to tie it up 7 minutes into the second half. It was one of 3 corner opportunities that they had in a four minute span. This goal gave the Rams an incredible amount of confidence that led to multiple  opportunities to come out on top. However, Appalachian State stood strong against the Rams momentum to go into overtime at 1-1 a piece. Appalachian State was able to find a way and finish the Rams off and win 2-1 in a thriller that handed the Rams their second straight lost. VCU is now 8-3 on the season and Appalachian State improves to 4-7.
