RICHMOND,Va.- VCU women’s basketball will play Stephen F. Austin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 in their final game of the Global Sports & Events Tip-Off event. 

The Ram’s are 1-1 after two strong showings to begin the season. On Nov. 25 VCU defeated Saint Mary’s (California) 87-79 earning Head Coach Beth O’Boyle her 200 program win. Freshman point guard Sarah Te-Biasu, had an immediate impact in her debut game. The 5-5 guard scored 19 points on 8-10 shooting and 3-4 from 3. 

 

Last time out VCU lost to Pac-12’s Arizona State University 40-49. Reigning A10 Sixth Woman of the Year Madison Hattix-Covington led the way for the Ram’s with 16 points and two steals. 

 

Stephen F. Austin of the Southland conference also beat Saint Mary’s and lost to ASU. The Ladyjacks have three players averaging 9.5 points in their first two games of the season. 

 

Like VCU, Stephen F. Austin is a defensive orientated squad. They have 29 steals and 10 blocks through two games and have scored 22 points off of turnovers so far. Rebounding is a point of emphasis for the Rams as the Ladyjacks have been outrebounded 64-93 in their last two.  

 

Games Notes 

  • The game will be shown through a live stream on the team’s Facebook page.

  • Freshman Te-Biasu is averaging 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals a game. 

  • VCU Senior Tera Reed missed the ASU game with an injury after pouring in 22 points, 4 assist and 4 rebounds against Saint Mary’s.  

  • Sparkplug redshirt junior Hattix-Covington leads the Rams in scoring averaging 13 points a game. 

  • Junior Kseniya Malashka has been a defensive anchor. She got her career-high 7 blocks against ASU while helping on the glass with 7 rebounds.

VCU will head back to the Siegel Center to take on the University of Buffalo Thursday, Dec. 3.
