The Rams women’s tennis team took on the University of Maryland at home this past week. VCU came in with a 3-2 record with 1-0 undefeated record in conference play. Led by head coach Paul Kostin. VCU looked to stay above a .500 record. Maryland University comes in with a 1-2 record led by head coach Daria Panova. It’s a big match for both teams to avoid an even record or to get to one.

VCU was led by Anna Rasmussen and Melissa Ifidzhen doubles. Getting a 6-4 win over Maryland’s Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton. The duo of VCU’s Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado got a 6-2 victory over Maryland’s Anastasia Gevel and Katsiaryna Yemelyanek. Maryland cameback from the first two losses with duo Zoe Kulkarni and Amber Policare with a 6-3 win over VCU’s Marina Alcaide Bakkari and Noumea Witmus.

Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado led VCU in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Maryland’s Eva Alezandrova. Sparking a wave of wins for VCU in singles. VCU’s Anna Rasmussen defeated Maryland’s Millie Stretton 6-4, 5-7 and a 2-2 DNF. Marina Alcaide Bakkari for VCU faced off against UM’s Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka 5-7, 6-0 and 5-1 DNF. Kanako Yano for VCU defeated UM’s Anastasia Gevel 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Melissa Ifidzhen for VCU faced UM’s Zoe Kulkarni. Melissa won 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Noumea Witmus for VCU played against Amber Policare of Maryland. Witmus came out on victory with a 6-0, 4-2 DNF.

VCU won 4-0 over Maryland. Putting VCU at 4-2 record. Maryland falls to 1-3. VCU has there next match a ODU February 13th at 11am. They play here at home next Saturday at 11am against the Liberty Flames.
