Richmond, Va., – 19,450 people got a chance to witness a WWE-like brawl on the final day of the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans joint practices under rainy conditions. Within a five minute period, three brawls broke out between the two Redskins practice field. Redskins head coach, Jay Gruden, and Texans head coach, Bill O’Brien, decided it was best for both teams to stop practicing with each other for the remainder of practice.
“Both Coach O’Brien and myself tried to make it clear that it wasn’t acceptable behavior,” Gruden said. “We missed an opportunity to get better today against a good team.”
“It’s intense out there,” O’Brien said. “It’s too bad, but that’s what happen with two competitive teams.”
This is not the first time that the Texans have been in a situation like this. Last year while practicing with the Denver Broncos, scuffles were reported between both teams.
“One thing for sure is that we got each other’s back,” Redskins Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said. “Nothing good comes out of those fights. Someone could get hurt, but I don’t think no one did thankfully.”
19,450 people attended today’s practice, which has been the largest turnout this year so far.
The Redskins will enjoy a day off tomorrow and will resume practice on Monday.
