Men’s Basketball: Current Record (15-5, 7-0) (AP: RV, USA Today: RV)

On Wednesday, the VCU Rams defeated the Duquesne Dukes 93-71 in what was the first of two sellout crowds this week at the Siegel Center. The Rams never trailed during the game while shooting 53% from the field. The Rams shot 52% from the field. Doug Brooks and Mo Alie-Cox led the Rams in scoring with 16 points. Brooks and Alie-Cox both had impressive efforts on the defensive side of the ball as Brooks gathered five steals and Alie-Cox had four blocks.

On what was supposed be a Saturday afternoon basketball game, VCU defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 84-76 on Sunday afternoon. The win for VCU was their 10th straight victory keeping their lead in the Atlantic 10 conference. Also, it is the second consecutive that the Rams have started 7-0 in conference play. JeQuan Lewis finished the game with 26 points, seven assists, two steals and zero turnovers. VCU led for the majority of the first half before the Bonnies took the lead at the end of the half 34-33 courtesy of a tip-in from Denzel Gregg. St. Bonaventure guard, Marcus Posley caught fire at the beginning of the second half scoring the Bonnies first 16 points of the half giving them a 50-41 lead with 13:32 to go in the game. VCU would come close to retaking the lead multiple times but would not until Mo Alie-Cox converted on a tip-in with 6:40 left in the game. The Rams did not trail for the remainder of the game going up by as much as 13 before the final buzzer. Posley led all scorers with 30 points.

Women’s Basketball: Current Record (13-6, 2-4)

The VCU Rams fell to the George Mason Patriots 70-54 in a Wednesday night tilt in Fairfax, Virginia. Patriots guard, Taylor Brown had a game-high 21 points with five rebounds. The Rams shot 33% from the field while Ashley Pegram was the only player for VCU to finish in double figures with 11 points. The Patriots had an efficient night offensively shooting 53% from the field en route to their eighth victory of the season.

VCU’s game at the University of Richmond that was originally scheduled for Sunday at the Robins Center has been pushed to Monday January 25 at 7:00 at the Siegel Center. The Rams and the Spiders will play each other at the Robins Center on Sunday, February 14 at 3:00.

This Week: VCU will face the Richmond Spiders at the Siegel Center tonight at 7:00. VCU will also host the Fordham Rams Wednesday night at 7:00 and the Duquesne Dukes on Sunday January 31 at 1:00.

Men’s Tennis

This Week: VCU will travel to Bloomington, Indiana for a pair of matches as they will face the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday and the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday.

Women’s Tennis

This Week: The VCU Rams will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to face North Carolina State at 4:00.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

VCU will participate in the GMU Patriot Games on Saturday in Fairfax, Virginia.
