Men’s Basketball: Current Record (13-5, 5-0)

VCU Rams smoked the Fordham Rams 88-54 on Wednesday night. Sophomore Justin Tillman led the Rams in scoring with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Tillman’s double-double was his third one this season. VCU took the game by storm scoring the first points of the game and never trailed Fordham. VCU shot 61% from the field in the game. Defensively, the Black and Gold scored 28 points off of 18 Fordham turnovers.

The Rams followed up with a road victory against the Richmond 94-89 in overtime. Jequan Lewis finished the game with 29 points. Both teams played a hard fought game to the end as the lead changed 20 times and featured 11 ties. Justin Tillman tied the game with 35 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 84. Melvin Johnson hit a pair of free throws to give VCU the 90-89 lead with 2:05 to go in overtime. Richmond’s, Terry Allen, missed a go-ahead jumper from the free throw line with four seconds left. Melvin Johnson hit another pair of free throws and Mo Alie-Cox sealed the deal with a steal off an inbound pass that led to a dunk.

However, the Rams fell to the Davidson Wildcats at home Sunday evening 56-50. Mackenzie Latt and Dakota Dukes both finished with 18 points for Wildcats. The Wildcats went on an 11-0 run between the final 2:47 of the third quarter and the first 2:24 of the fourth quarter to obtain their largest lead of the game of 13 points, 50-37.
