VCU has announced that all Spring 2021 classes will switch to a virtual start.

According to an e-mail to students, faculty, and staff from VCU President Michael Rao,  “All classes will begin virtually, except in instances where a student is involved in clinical and field placements, practica, co-ops, internships and other work-related experiential learning activities. This means that previously planned in-person classes and the in-person component of hybrid (blended) courses also will take place virtually.”

Rao cites the current third surge of Covid-19 currently affecting the area for the change, and says that the university intends to resume in-person instruction as pandemic conditions improve.

Evaluation on whether the university will return to in-person learning will occur in mid-February, with the hope to resume in-person learning on or before March 8th.

The academic calendar remains unchanged with the semester beginning on January 25th.
